Just a quick note to all of you that are now taking on the CF-Endurance Course.  I was a part of the guinea-pig (first class) is Fresno with Kevin and would like to share my story with all of you to get you motivated.  (I'm the tall retard in the red shorts in the clips on-line...don't laugh at me).

I come from a swimming background (sea not land).  Collegiate scholarship in the pool (not on the turf).  I say this for 2 reasons.....(1) It has been 15 years since I've competed in the pool and have been in-shape in the endurance aspect...(2) Being from the swimming background, my body does not react well to the impact of land.

That said, I have re-engaged myself back into the fit-life in order to get myself back into shape to feel better as a fit parent for my kids and also to look better for those pools in Vegas (Nice).  I have been committed to the Cross-Fit workout since April of 09 (6-months prior to the CF-Endurance commitment).  As Kevin calls me, "I am a 5:00 am guy". Religiously going early since day one.

My wife is also a very fit person, who last year did the Fresno 1/2 marathon (walk) while she was 8 months pregnant (psycho..I know, but very proud of her).  She thought it would be a good idea for us to do "something fit" together this year and threw out the 1/2 Marathon Run.  Feeling confident, I pushed my chips all in and committed.  Bad deal though....I'm a Fish out of water.

Fast forward to the CF-Endurance....I knew that I needed help, as my running form was not there and was skeptical if it would hold out for the 13miles.  After the first day, Kevin realized my tendencies and started to correct them.  I had no idea that my current form was counterproductive (heal contact, no forward lean, etc).

8-Weeks of "forward lean", "Figure 4", and those darn "tabata" workouts, were brutal, but were helpful.  By week 4, I found myself running for 40-minutes straight (nice workout-Kevin).   Surprisingly to myself, I did the whole thing without stopping or walking.  I attribute this to both my regular CF-WOD's and the CF-Endurance workouts. Cardio was not an issue.  Unfortunately and due to the fact that my body was not used to this "land impact", I started to experience massive shin splint pain.  With Kevin's advice and help, I worked through it and managed to get myself ready for the marathon.

Day of the race.....My wife and I ran together and finished the race.  I kept my CF-Endurance pace consistent for the whole race.  (11-minute mile and not ever going to call myself a runner).

My testimonial is this...I am a non-runner, who does Cross-fit.  I've never ran more than 3-miles straight.  After 6-months of Cross-fit-WOD's and the CF-Endurance course, I completed a 1/2 marathon.  The cardio portion of the marathon was not an issue, thanks to the CF-WOD's and those darn "tabata" workouts in the CF-Endurance course.  I will also tell you that the "hill" portion of the run was nothing and I passed alot of "in-shape" runners on that part of the run.  Felt good to pass those, who passed me on the flat course.  I was prepared and trained to do this race.

Because of my swimming background, I never entered this running race to place or to be competitive.  I entered it to see if I could actually do it and complete it. Thanks to the Cross-fit-WOD's and the CF-Endurance Course, I was able to achieve what I wanted to.

Thanks to all of you at the gym.  See you at 5:00am.
